About The Children’s Wood Playgroup
Everyone is welcome – even if you don’t live in the area. We meet up during all weather conditions unless the weather is unsafe. We usually build a shelter, have a small fire, and bring out some outdoor toys like ropes and tree cookies. There is a mud kitchen, stepping stone trail and a tipi for children to play on as well as sticks, puddles and mud which provides hours of fun and entertainment. We believe that children can get out in all weather – it just takes having the right kind of equipment.
The playgroup is child-led, and we encourage your child to explore the land, play and roam around the wood.
Purpose of the Playgroup
The purpose of the playgroup is to provide an opportunity for parents/ caregivers to bring their children to the Children’s Wood and Meadow for outdoor play and fun and to meet other children and families. The playgroup is a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone is welcome. The Children’s Wood playgroup began from the recognition that there were no outdoor playgroups in our area, yet there were lots of indoor playgroups and clubs for families to attend – we wanted to balance things out and make it easier for families and children to get outside. Children are not getting enough time to play outside, and our playgroups provide an opportunity to counteract this trend.
