Get Involved​

There are opportunities to get involved with training at The Children’s Wood. The types of training sessions we provide are:

  • How to run a campaign or start something similar to The Children’s Wood,
  • Tips for gardening, growing, maintenance and foraging,
  • Training for teachers. Outdoor learning and how you can achieve this at The Children’s Wood or in your local greenspace. How outdoor learning can meet the Curriculum for Excellence,
  • Basic skills and techniques such as rope use, tool use, equipment care and putting up shelters,
  • Health and safety and risk assessment when working outdoors,
  • Introduction to outdoor learning: including approaches such as forest school, loose parts play and developmental psychology,
  • The Children’s Wood training for volunteers.

If you would like to donate to The Children’s Wood your money will go towards continuing to look after the land, providing free community events, gardening opportunities, an outdoor playgroup and outdoor education for children.

We secured a 25-year lease from the council in March 2022, and with your help, we fully expect to be able to maintain and sustain a beautiful wild green space for the local community long into the future.

Your donation will go towards

  • Land maintenance for The Children’s Wood and Meadow.
  • Promoting outdoor learning and play within our community; resources and support for our school session, playgroups, clubs and community events.
  • Supporting growing, gardening and community composting on the land.
  • Training for volunteers, teachers and community members.
  • Staffing of the Children’s Wood and materials.

Volunteer​

Maintaining The Children’s Wood and North Kelvin Meadow relies heavily on volunteering. This is Our Land, Your Land, and All of Our Land, and to make it the best place it can be, we need your input.  We aim to make the space, and the activities on it, sustainable and to do this we need YOU. We hope to facilitate and create opportunities for the community to get involved in a way that meets their hopes needs and ambitions for the space. We encourage you to get in touch with us to say how you would like to get involved. There are many ways to volunteer at the Children’s Wood and North Kelvin Meadow, if you don’t see something below that interests you, but you still want to be part of our community, then get in touch and we can work out how you can be involved in another way.

  • Help to organise and assist with sessions for schools and the wider community
  • Get involved with growing and maintaining the land
  • Home baking to help us raise funds
  • Sign up to a 10k or other event and raise money for the Children’s Wood
  • Help us with publicity, signage or with the day-to-day activities
  • Start an outdoor group like Tai Chi or Drawing
  • Got an idea for the land or an activity? Bring it to us and we can talk through how it could happen.
